Visiting Greece On A Budget: How to Spend Less and Get More.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of budget options in Greece. Hearing about how islands like Santorini and Mykonos are super expensive might make you think all of Greece is expensive, but that’s far from true. So, I’m going to show you how to have fun and have some great experiences in Greece- on a budget.

Stay AWAY… From Touristy Places

Three places in Greece are the most visited: Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos. If you want to save money, you should stay away. Athens has a lot of budget options, but Mykonos and Santorini… 😕

If you really want to go to one of those islands, though, which I still highly recommend, I would go to Santorini, since it had more budget options and in my opinion, it’s more fun and beautiful. But, if you’re still not sure about it, visit my post, Santorini or Mykonos?.

If you choose one of those islands, then, if you have enough time, choose another. I would choose one in the Cyclades, just because they’re closer and easier to get to. Here are some options for islands: Paros – there are some luxury hotels and restaurants here, but there are a whole lot of budget options as well. Naxos- right next to Paros, with the same-ish concept, but a bit less expensive. Milos- incredible island similar to Santorini for its other-wordly landscapes, just less expensive. Ios- this island is famous for its incredible beaches, and its super close to Santorini. Folegandros: A mountainous island with picturesque villages and sea views, and its also pretty close to Santorini.

Pick Cheaper Hotels

This sort of goes with staying away from touristy places. Since in more touristy places, hotels are usually more expensive, picking budget hotels, especially if you want to visit places like Santorini and Athens is a very important step.

My if you want to find budget or mid-range hotels in Athens, Santorini, or Paros, my articles, Voyager’s Guide to Santorini, Voyager’s Guide to Paros, and the Voyager’s Guide to Athens, will help you out a lot.

Ferries… Not Flights

There are two ways to get from Athens to, say, Santorini: by ferry or flight. Even though flights are a few hours faster, if you have enough time for it, and want to save money, you should choose a ferry.

And anyways, many, many, people say that going on ferries is part of the Greece experience, and you don’t want to miss out on it.

Hopefully, this will help you save money in Greece, once we can travel again.
